If your file includes borders or decorative elements along the edge, you must always ensure they are placed within the Safe Area indicated in the template. During the cutting phase of the printed product, slight deviations of 1–2 mm are normal. Therefore, it is important to place any borders (as well as important text and graphics) within the Safe Area to prevent them from being cut off or appearing misaligned on the final product, thus avoiding undesired visual results.
Read this article about the Safe Area if you’d like to learn more.
Here’s an example of a file with a border placed inside the Safe Area (first) and outside the Safe Area (second), along with their respective print results. In the second case, because the border is too close to the edge, even a small cutting deviation makes the uneven spacing between the border and the edge very noticeable.
In this particular case, opting for a thicker border helps reduce the appearance of misalignment, which can be more noticeable with a thinner border — especially if it is placed outside the Safe Area.
If you use the Online Designer, the lines may appear in different colors, but the same rules as in the template still apply.
If your file contains a border, place it within the Safe Area (at least 3 mm from the cut line) to ensure a high-quality result.
